Jeong-u’s Directing Debut Film ‘Jjangu’ Set to Release April 22... Director Jang Hang-jun to Make a Special Appearance

〈Jjangu〉 After 17 Years, ‘Jjangu’ Returns—A Fiery Survival Record of an Aspiring Actor

The film 〈Jjangu〉 has confirmed its release on April 22 and unveiled a teaser trailer.

〈Jjangu〉 is a drama that captures the unflinching courage and challenges of Jjangu (Jeong-u), a resident of a tiny one-room apartment in Seoul who holds on to the single-minded determination to become an actor, even amid the merciless reality of being rejected from auditions. For viewers who remember the film 〈Jjangu〉, which sparked a nationwide ‘Jjangu craze’ in 2009, this returning name after 17 years is expected to hit even deeper.

In the released teaser trailer, Jjangu’s intense everyday life is shown at the very edge of survival. Even through repeated audition failures and despair, Jjangu’s determination to practice without end in order to step onto the stage draws the hearts of everyone chasing their dreams. On top of that, a fresh moment of instant attraction toward Min-hee (Jeong Su-jung) is added, signaling a surge of romance.

Especially at the end of the trailer, director Jang Hang-jun’s cameo as an audition panel judge steals the spotlight. Director Jang Hang-jun of 〈The Man Who Lives with the King〉, with 15 million viewers in view, asks in the trailer, “Why does Mr. Kim Jeong-guk act?” In response, Jjangu’s final look—replacing his answer with a resolute expression—leaves a lingering sense of what kind of true stage awaits him.

Jjangu, Jeong-u’s directorial debut, starring Jeong Su-jung, Shin Seung-ho, Hyun Bong-sik, Jo Beom-gyu, Kwon So-hyun, and others, will meet audiences in theaters on April 22.
