
The 30th Busan International Film Festival has announced the selected works for the 'Today of Korean Cinema - Special Premiere' section, showcasing the achievements and trends of contemporary Korean cinema. The 'Today of Korean Cinema - Special Premiere' section presents the latest Korean commercial films with special public appeal and status. This section, which has introduced highly anticipated works that capture the audience's attention every year, raises expectations by unveiling five must-see Korean films this year.
The film 〈The Terror Live〉 (2013) director Kim Byung-woo's new work 〈The Great Flood〉 (2025) will be unveiled for the first time in the world. It is a work that vividly depicts the story of characters struggling for survival in an unprecedented disaster situation called 'The Great Flood'. Kim Da-mi, who plays the role of the artificial intelligence researcher 'Anna', and Park Hae-soo, who plays the role of the personnel security team 'Hee-jo', will deliver powerful performances that enhance immersion.
Director Ra Hee-chan's comic action film 〈Boss〉 (2025) depicts the desperate competition among organization members who fiercely yield the boss position to each other for their dreams, ahead of the selection of the next boss that determines the future of the organization. The performances of Jo Woo-jin, Jung Kyung-ho, Park Ji-hwan, and Lee Kyu-hyung will double the fun with their reliable acting.
The new work 〈The People Upstairs〉 (2025) by director and actor Ha Jung-woo tells an unpredictable story that unfolds as the couples from the upstairs and downstairs have dinner together every night due to unusual noise from the upstairs. In particular, Ha Jung-woo plays the role of 'Mr. Kim', participating as both director and actor, raising the quality of the work.
The film 〈Jjanggu〉 (2025), which depicts the story after the film 〈Wind〉 (2009), is set to make its debut in Busan. It tells the growth story of 'Jjanggu', who went to study in Seoul with dreams of becoming a movie star, and is the first directorial work written by actor Jung Woo, who is also the original author of 〈Wind〉 (2009). Director Oh Sung-ho, who won three awards at the 2021 Busan International Film Festival with 〈That Winter, I_〉 (2022), co-directs, raising expectations.
Director Lee Hwan's 〈Project Y〉 (2025) depicts the dangerous crime of two women surrounding black money and hidden gold bars. Han So-hee, who showcased high-level action acting through the drama 『My Name』 (2021), and Jeon Jong-seo, who has shown a distinct presence in every work including the film 〈Ballerina〉 (2023) and the drama 『Body Value』 (2022), will provide intense tension with their performances.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival, which is attracting attention by unveiling the lineup of selected works for the 'Today of Korean Cinema - Special Premiere' section, will be held for ten days from September 17 (Wednesday) to 26 (Friday) at the Busan Cinema Center.
