“Gunche,” the new work from master director Yeon Sang-ho of K-Zombies and the post-apocalyptic genre, has been unveiled with character stills capturing Ji Chang-wook’s intense transformation as the protagonist. In the midst of an unidentifiable infection crisis, a desperate struggle unfolds as a lone man battles those who turn into monsters in a bid to protect his family.
Ji Chang-wook Returns to the Screen as Building Security Team Member “Choi Hyun-seok”… Action Bursting With Desperation
In the film 〈Gunche〉, the story takes place inside the “dovecote” building sealed off by the infection incident, where isolated survivors fight against the evolving infected. Ji Chang-wook plays Choi Hyun-seok, a building security team member who knows the layout better than anyone, driving the story forward.
Having previously shown rough charisma in works like 〈The Worst Evil〉 and 〈Revolver〉, Ji Chang-wook now promises a more three-dimensional emotional arc in this project. On vacation, he will carry his sister, Choi Hyun-hee (played by Kim Shin-rok), who has a lower-body disability, and complete an extreme mission to escape the building—at once showcasing both desperate struggle and fierce family love.
“Charging Straight Through the Infected With a Single Pole”… Strategic Survival That Knows the Building’s Structure Inside Out

In the released stills, Choi Hyun-seok is pure urgency. From the moment he steps forward to protect people with a pole instead of a weapon, to the scene where he stares hard at the CCTV monitors to find an escape route—his approach to survival feels like it was forged by a true security professional.
In particular, the stills of him facing a group of infected alone while carrying his sister on his back combine Ji Chang-wook’s signature high-energy action with a harrowing stare, delivering an overwhelming sense of immersion. Director Yeon Sang-ho said, “I was amazed not only by the action, but also by the detailed acting that goes into designing the characters,” expressing strong confidence in Ji Chang-wook’s performance.
“The Key Point to Watch Is How People Change”… Release in May 2026
Speaking about the film, Ji Chang-wook said, “Just as the infected change, what’s key is how the survivors change—and how they respond in extreme situations,” hinting at a tense, high-pressure unfolding.
Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the film 〈Gunche〉 captures the grotesque evolution of the infected he designed and Choi Hyun-seok’s fight to preserve humanity within it, and it is set to release nationwide in theaters in May 2026.
