“KT Studio Genie”·“CJ CGV” Sign a Strategic “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)” to Reshape the Content Ecosystem

“KT Studio Genie” and “CJ CGV” have joined forces in a major move to provide full support for the theatrical release of “small and mid-sized films” that struggle to secure large-scale releases.

On the 7th, the two companies signed a “content co-procurement business MOU” to create a pipeline for jointly procuring content and releasing small-to-mid-sized films independently, covering everything from theatrical screenings to “ancillary rights distribution.” This is widely seen as key momentum to inject fresh energy into the sluggish Korean film industry.

Combining Each Company’s Core Strengths… Preventing Unnecessary Overlapping Investments and Maximizing Efficiency

Under this agreement, the two firms will combine their distinct infrastructures to maximize synergy. The division of roles is as follows.

  • “CJ CGV”: Responsible for independent theatrical releases and marketing for small films, expanding touchpoints with audiences

  • “KT Studio Genie”: Oversees ancillary rights distribution through its own IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform

Through this, the two companies plan to prevent unnecessary overlapping investments at the source and firmly establish an efficient and stable “content distribution network.”

Securing Collaborations of 4+ Titles per Year… Creating a Gateway for High-Quality Small-to-Mid-Sized Projects

The two companies have set securing at least four collaborative titles per year as their initial goal, and plan to continuously expand the scope of collaboration. Beyond a simple business partnership, the plan is to build a solid foundation so that “small and mid-sized films” of high quality can reach audiences on the big screen, regardless of production scale.

“Jeong Geun-wook” KT Studio Genie CEO said, “Based on our distinctive distribution capabilities, we will make the content ecosystem even richer together.”

Meanwhile, “Jeong Jong-min” CJ CGV CEO also shared his vision, saying, “I will help contribute to a sustainable cycle across the content industry by building an environment where a wider variety of content can meet audiences.”
