KT, a major telecommunications company in South Korea, will exclusively release the generative artificial intelligence film 〈Code: G The Beginning of Attention〉 at CGV on the 27th. It is gaining attention as an experimental attempt to explore the commercial potential of AI in film production.

According to KT on the 24th, this film is a project led by KT in joint planning and investment, with research and development personnel from KT's media group participating from the planning stage. KT is responsible for the investment, while kt studio genie is in charge of distribution, focusing on verifying the potential use of AI technology in the film industry.

The film weaves together five independent shorts in an omnibus format, with 'humanity' as the core theme. A total of six directors, including Kim Joo-shin (〈Prime Pattern: Echo〉), Kim Young-ki (〈Memory Management Bureau〉), Kwon Han-seul and Hong Gi-seon (〈DMZ〉), Song Young-yoon (〈Order in Chaos〉), and Kim Kwang-sik (〈Day One〉), participated in the production, exploring humanity from different perspectives.

The most notable aspect of the production method is the comprehensive use of generative AI technology. Among the five films, 〈Memory Management Bureau〉 was completed in a hybrid manner, combining over 90% AI synthesis technology with the actual performance of actress Lee Sun-bin. The remaining four films boldly attempted to construct narratives using only 100% generative AI synthesized images without any actor filming process.

KT views this film as the first step in gauging the commercial viability of a film based almost entirely on generative AI. After its release, they plan to closely analyze audience reactions and market data to decide on the future expansion of AI film production.

Kim Chae-hee, Executive Director of KT's Media Division, evaluated that "〈Code: G The Beginning of Attention〉 is a case that shows how AI can be utilized in the industry to lower the entry barriers in the creative process and expand experimental attempts."

She added, "Even if there are technical limitations, the very act of recording the current level of AI film production is meaningful and could serve as a benchmark for future discussions on creative methods."

Film industry experts believe that this project will serve as a testing ground for the applicability of AI technology in film production. In particular, attention is focused on how the 100% AI-produced shorts will be evaluated by audiences and what changes this may bring to the future film production environment.
