A legendary aerial action blockbuster that saved movie theaters around the world 'Top Gun' has announced its third return.

On the 16th (local time), according to international media outlets including ABC, Paramount Skydance officially announced the production of 'Top Gun 3' through CinemaCon 2026. 'Academy Honorary Award', the honorary Oscar first awarded in 2025, 'Tom Cruise' returns as the eternal Maverick. Along with the statement that will drive the series’ success, the world is set to anticipate a perfect synergy, as producer 'Jerry Bruckheimer' joins the franchise again. Beyond the grandeur of the previous installment, which recorded astronomical box-office earnings of $1.5 billion, global movie fans are focused on the overwhelming aerial combat and solid storytelling that will unfold with the next generation of pilots.

While specific plot details are still shrouded in secrecy, it is expected to take the form of a sequel that continues the story of 'Top Gun: Maverick' (hereafter, Top Gun 2), which sparked a worldwide sensation in 2022.

USA Today reported that it is highly likely that next-generation pilots such as Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Miles Teller —who left a strong impression in the previous film, Top Gun 2—will reunite for the third installment.

When ‘Top Gun’ first hit screens in 1986, it went on to become one of the biggest box-office hits of its time by portraying the perilous missions and tight-knit camaraderie of Navy fighter-jet pilots.

In particular, Tom Cruise, who perfectly embodied the role of Captain Maverick, helped popularize Ray-Ban sunglasses and aviation jackets, propelling him almost overnight into the ranks of the world’s top teen idols.
