Son Seok-gu to Play Roh Tae-woo, Ha Jung-woo to Play Chun Doo-hwan... Director Yoon Jong-bin's Netflix Film 'The Generals' Confirmed for Production

Director Yoon Jong-bin, who directed the films 〈The War on Crime: The Heyday of the Bad Guys〉 and 〈The Spy Gone North〉, and the Netflix series 〈Narco-Saints〉, has teamed up with Netflix to produce a new film, 〈The Generals〉. Netflix announced on the 27th that production has been confirmed and released the main cast lineup.

The film 〈The Generals〉 is set against the backdrop of modern South Korean history and portrays absolute ruler Chun Doo-hwan, his second-in-command Roh Tae-woo—who presents himself as an 'ordinary person' while scheming to become the top leader—and the desires of the people surrounding them.

Actor Son Seok-gu has been cast as Roh Tae-woo, the perpetual number two. He will portray the complex inner changes of a figure who, long overshadowed by absolute power, finally reaches the pinnacle of authority. The role of Chun Doo-hwan, the central figure of the new military regime, went to actor Ha Jung-woo. Ha Jung-woo has been a recurring persona for director Yoon Jong-bin since his debut film 〈The Unforgiven〉, and he promises another powerful character transformation in this project.

In addition to the two leads, a distinctive supporting cast joins to heighten the film's tension. Ji Chang-wook will play Heo Hak-seong, a junior from the Military Academy and a rival whom Roh Tae-woo watches warily; Hyun Bong-sik will portray Jung Ho-joong, a friend of Roh Tae-woo and Chun Doo-hwan; and Seo Hyun-woo will play Park Chul-woong, Roh Tae-woo's aide and a prosecutor in the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office's Public Security Division.

The film 〈The Generals〉 is scheduled to be released worldwide via Netflix.
