Lee Jeong-hyeon and Moon Sung-keun star in the film 〈Flower Petals〉, which opens for a 30th anniversary re-release on May 14, and has launched its Tumblbug project. 〈Flower Petals〉 is a film that reveals both a person’s madness and society’s violence through the life of a young girl whose world collapses under the trauma of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.〈Flower Petals〉 is set to be re-released through 4K remastering.
The film 〈Flower Petals〉, marking its 30th anniversary of release in 2026, will return to audiences with 4K remastering. When it first debuted in 1996, this work drew attention for its powerful message and distinctive direction. Through the wounds of a young girl, it captured the tragedy of modern Korean history and left a deep resonance. In particular, 〈Flower Petals〉, which embraces the pain of Gwangju through a personal life and emotions, has been regarded as an important film that goes beyond a simple period drama or reenactment of events—showing, in itself, how Korean cinema handles “memory.” The 4K remastered re-release for the 30th anniversary is not just about pulling a controversial work from the past off the shelf again. Rather, it carries the meaning of bringing back questions that are still ongoing onto the screen.

Meanwhile, a Tumblbug funding campaign is also underway to secure theaters nationwide and raise a promotional budget. Running for about two weeks from April 27 to May 8, this funding campaign offers a variety of rewards that will let you remember 〈Flower Petals〉 for a long time, including signed posters, Blu-rays, and viewing passes. Beyond rewatching at the theater, this project is expected to become a special opportunity to remember 〈Flower Petals〉 in each person’s own way—encompassing not only records that remain in your hands, but also the collectible value you can revisit even after time passes.
