Actor Kang Dong-won spoke about his impressions after taking on a bold role.
Kang Dong-won, the lead actor of the film 〈Wild Sing〉, which opens on June 3, met with Cineplay on the afternoon of the 19th at a location in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and opened up about everything from how he prepared for the project to his impressions of working on it.
〈Wild Sing〉 is a comedy about a mixed three-member dance group called 'Triangle' that once swept the pop music scene but disbanded overnight after an unexpected incident, and, 20 years later, makes a reckless attempt to seize a comeback opportunity. Actor Kang Dong-won passionately plays Hyun-woo, the leader and dance machine of 'Triangle'.
For this role, Kang performed everything himself — from breakdancing to windmills and headspins — attempting a radical transformation. He said, "A close older friend watched the film and texted, 'Are you short of money these days?'" which brought laughter to those present. Kang added, "I took that as a compliment. From the first time I read the script, I thought that reaction would come, and I believed people would be the most surprised by this among my films. Isn't it a pleasant kind of betrayal?" showing he was satisfied with his transformation.
The film 〈Wild Sing〉, starring Kang Dong-won, opens on June 3.
