Jenny Slatten (Jenny Slatten · 68), who captured the hearts of viewers worldwide through the popular U.S. reality program ’90 Day Fiancé,’ has come forward to share that she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease), drawing sympathy and concern.
■ The truth hidden behind a stroke rumor… “I was diagnosed with ALS”—official announcement
In an exclusive interview with U.S. entertainment outlet ’People’ on April 19 (local time), Jenny Slatten and her husband Sumit Singh (Sumit Singh · 38) revealed the reality behind recent health concerns surrounding them.
Through her Instagram, Jenny officially stated, “There have been rumors that I suffered a stroke, but the test results confirmed ALS.” She added, “I was so overwhelmed and struggling that, at first, I kept it secret and tried to find a solution. But now I feel it’s time to ask the world for help and communicate.”
■ Warning signs that began with swallowing difficulties… “the devil’s disease” that took her father came back
The shadow of misfortune first fell on the couple in December 2024. Jenny was drinking water when she suddenly began to choke badly and nearly suffocated. After that, she continued to experience migraines and a hard time swallowing pills. At first, they thought it was simply an infection, but as her speech rate slowed and her pronunciation became slurred, the couple realized the seriousness of the situation.
In particular, a fan’s concerned comment during the ’90 Day Fiancé’ holiday party in New York in December 2025 became a turning point. The husband, Sumit, immediately searched for medical information and discovered that Jenny’s symptoms matched ALS precisely—shocking them. Because Jenny’s father died more than 10 years ago from exactly this ALS, their fear was even greater. In the end, after seeing leading neurologists in India, they received a final confirmed diagnosis.

■ A fatal disease that gradually paralyzes the whole body… “Genetic testing and clinical trials open”
ALS selectively destroys motor neurons, leading to progressive muscle weakness, walking difficulties, and ultimately a fatal decline in the ability to breathe on her own. As of now, there is no cure.
Fortunately, the medical team diagnosed that the pace of Jenny’s disease progression is “on the slower side.” As a result, Jenny is preparing for genetic testing to find targeted treatments that may slow the progression. She has also joined a patient community to gather the latest treatment options and clinical trial information. She appealed, “Right now, my husband and I are keeping every possibility open to find a treatment. I hope someone reaches out with a helping hand.”
■ “Please don’t treat me differently”… a marriage that transcends borders and disease
Jenny, from California, fell in love with Sumit from India—30 years her junior—and chose to leave everything behind and move to India. Their love story, breaking through cultural barriers, symbolized true love. This ordeal has made their bond even stronger.
In an interview with ’People,’ Sumit said, “In my life, I’ve never loved someone so intensely.” He added, “In the past, I lived only for myself, but through my wife, I learned that I feel real happiness when I do something for the person I love.” He promised unwavering devotion. Jenny also responded calmly, “We’re just happy that we can be together right now. I want to live an ordinary life, just as we’ve done up to now—please don’t treat me differently.”
The two will appear in Season 3 of the spin-off series ’90 Day Fiancé: The Last Resort’ airing its first episode on TLC on June 1, where they plan to openly share the journey of their illness and their tender daily life with one another.
