‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’ announced immediately with a Korea backdrop—sets up a second Korean War

The famous action game franchise “Call of Duty” has unveiled its next installment set in Korea.

“Call of Duty” posted a live stream on May 28 (Korean time) that teased the new release. The dark, night-street-focused live broadcast aired in Korean under the title “Camera 4.” After the live stream ended, a teaser was released showing soldiers patrolling a Korean street being hit by a sudden bombing.

The “Call of Duty” series said the new title is the next entry in the “Modern Warfare” saga, which depicts modern warfare, and announced it as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.” The game centers on North Korea invading the Republic of Korea again, and even in the video it spelled out the “4” in Korean as “sa,” making it clear that a second Korean War will be the main backdrop.

After the teaser was released, the “Call of Duty” team put extra effort into “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4,” including changing the location of its official social media accounts to Korea and intentionally setting its official homepage to “No signal.” “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” launches on Oct. 23.
