'Major League' makes new history, the 'Wind's Grandson' goes beyond legend

'Major League' has a new milestone. 'San Francisco Giants' 'Lee Jung-hoo' finally broke through the limits for Korean big leaguers, leaving an overwhelming presence stamped on the world.

Hits in 17 straight games, erasing a legend and writing 'new history'

On the 10th (Korean time), Oracle Park in California was Lee Jung-hoo's stage. Batting fifth and playing right field against the Washington Nationals, he drilled a right-field single in the bottom of the third inning, stacking up the rare feat of 'hits in 17 straight games'. That 'record-setting feat' instantly surpassed the previous longest mark by a Korean batter—16 games—held by 'Choo Shin-soo' in 2013 and 'Kim Ha-seong' in 2023. His bat, which began tearing into pitching in the Los Angeles Dodgers game on the 15th of last month, kept turning sharply without a single day off.

Lee Jung-hoo's hitting instincts did not stop there. With one out and runners on first and third in the bottom of the fifth inning, he lined a two-run double that sliced into right-field territory, completing his season 22nd 'multi-hit game'. Two hits and two RBIs in five at-bats—an unmistakable moment of total control as the engine of the lineup.

'A batting-title chase', the 'Wind's Grandson' keeps rolling

The peak of his hitting form is translating directly into the numbers. Lee Jung-hoo's season batting average climbed straight up from the previous .333 to .335 (77 hits in 230 at-bats), locking in the 'No. 2 overall batting average in the majors' spot. The gap between him and the current leader, 'Otto Lopez' of the Miami Marlins (0.341), is just six points. With sparks flying for a full-blown 'batting-title race', he is focusing the attention of baseball fans worldwide on San Francisco.

Still, despite Lee Jung-hoo's dazzling performance, the 'San Francisco Giants' left behind a heavy sense of regret after the bullpen collapsed, losing a 3-6 turnaround to Washington.

Meanwhile, 'Song Sung-moon' of the San Diego Padres made a starting appearance against the Cincinnati Reds, going 1-for-5 and posting a season batting average of 0.194. The Padres, too, fell 3-5 after a bruising win-or-go-home fight in 11 innings, decided by a tiebreaker.
