The Backside of Competition, a Cold Record of Survival Captured Through the Lens

Ahead of the opening of ‘Esports World Cup (EWC)’, the Saudi Arabia Esports Federation (EF) has rolled out the back-of-stage reality in a no-holds-barred documentary, ‘Esports World Cup: Level Up’ Season 2, releasing it on the 19th.

This five-part series, which streams exclusively on ‘Amazon Prime Video’, digs relentlessly into the inside stories of pro gamers and e-sports power clubs that battled it out at the ‘2025 EWC’ stage, along with the families that sustain them.

In a world where a single mouse click can determine the fate of a career—and season results directly decide whether a club stays alive—this ‘cold-blooded world of competition’ has been projected onto the screen without filtering the weight of the crown players must carry and the fierce psychological warfare needed to claim the title of the world’s elite.

The production team is equally formidable. ‘The Dish Machine’, under Sony Pictures Television, serves as executive producer, while ‘R.J. Cutler’, the director known for demonstrating his directing prowess through Apple TV+’s acclaimed work ‘Billie Eilish: A Slightly Blurrier World,’ has taken the helm to complete the documentary’s narrative depth and aesthetics.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Federation, said, “This work sheds light on the extreme pressure players face, the surging ambition, and the sense of family. Through this, we will ensure the public sees how esports, beyond being just games, can take its place as ‘mainstream culture for a new generation’.”

Meanwhile, ‘EWC 2026’, drawing concentrated attention from the global esports ecosystem, opens in Paris, France, from July 6 to Aug. 23. A total prize pool of $75 million (about 104 billion won in Korean won) will be poured in as the largest scale of capital in esports history, and it is set to crown the world’s best gamers across 24 titles.
