The animated film 〈David〉, which unveils a high-profile Korean voice cast, opens July 10.
〈David〉 follows a boy who starts out as an ordinary shepherd and, after a confrontation with Goliath, faces his destiny as a great king. Park Bo-gum voices the lead character David, taking on the challenge of voice acting. The poster shows David evolving from a boy with the pure courage to say, "I'll fight," to a young man gripping a sword as he faces his destiny as king. With his warm yet commanding voice, Park is expected to bring depth to David's sweeping transformation from shepherd boy to hero.
The film also adds veteran performers who give the story added gravitas. Jang Gwang plays the prophet Samuel, who helps usher in David's destiny, with a weighty presence. Musical theater star Cha Ji-yeon, known for her powerful voice, voices David's mother Nitzevet and conveys profound maternal love with the line, "When he loses his way and cries in fear, be his light."
Veteran voice actors also join the lineup, adding tension to the film. Song Jun-seok plays Saul, a king obsessed with the crown and consumed by madness, while Si Yeong-jun voices the giant Goliath, delivering an overwhelming presence through his voice. In addition, distinctive supporting characters who stand by David — including Jonathan, Seuruya and his pet sheep Tali — enrich the story.
The animated film 〈David〉, which brings the biblical hero's story to the screen, opens in South Korean theaters on July 10.
