The unprecedented ‘ballot box shutdown protest’ butterfly effect… a booking crisis hits K-pop’s holy sites

TVXQ member 'U-Know' encountered an unexpected external obstacle. He made the unprecedented decision to urgently change the venue for his solo concert in the wake of the seemingly endless 'ballot box shutdown protest'.

SM Entertainment said it has officially moved the stage for 'Yunho Project 26: The New Chapter: One in Seoul', scheduled from the 17th to the 19th, from the Olympic Park handball arena in Songpa District, Seoul, to the 'Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium' via its fan community platform, Weverse, on the 7th. The agency said, "As the situation in which the existing venue cannot be used has continued, the change in venue was unavoidable to ensure a smooth performance," and expressed regret over delays in the notice due to a new venue booking approval process.

Originally, the stage was a symbolic space that would open the glamorous 'Asia Tour' curtain-raiser. But it all began with a controversy over a shortage of ballots during the nationwide local elections held on March 3 of last month. As the so-called 'Jamsil ballot box shutdown protest' sparked near the handball arena has dragged on for more than a month, the normal performance operations system is effectively in collapse.

The butterfly effect of these protests is dealing a deadly blow to 'the entertainment industry as a whole'. Earlier, 'WeverseCon', hosted by HYBE, produced a farce that forced a complete overhaul of core operational plans such as audience routes, and NEXON's 'MapleStory' showcase was rushed to relocate to Ilsan KINTEX. Even singer 'Park Seo-jin''s Seoul encore concert, which was set to be held at the same venue on the 4th and 5th, ultimately met with a tragic final cancellation.

Meanwhile, 'U-Know Yunho' is set to complete his Seoul performances without wavering despite the bad news of the venue change, and will carry the momentum of a global tour forward next month in major Asian hub cities including Macau and Singapore.
