A daring twist-on-possession story meets short-form storytelling, a spy thriller packed into 1 minute and 30 seconds
Content powerhouse SLL Joongang is making a full-fledged push into the global short-form market. SLL Joongang said it will unveil the original series ‘Code Name: Evil Stepmother’ via the global short-form drama platform ‘Good Shot’ on the 22nd. The project is being assessed as a bold work that proves its well-made planning prowess, in line with the rapidly expanding demand for short-form content.
The story follows Seol-hwa, a former top-tier operative who meets a tragic death during the course of her mission, as she becomes possessed and turns into the ‘evil stepmother’ inside a melodrama of love and hate in the 1980s. In particular, actress ‘Jung Yein’, an ex-member of girl group Lovelyz, will play the role of the protagonist Seol-hwa, attempting a powerful shift in performance. With Han Jeong-wan, an actor equipped with solid fundamentals, joining the cast, the production plans to maximize the drama’s tension.
This work completes a massive scale of ‘60 episodes’ with a short runtime of about 1 minute and 30 seconds per episode. While fully absorbing the distinctive grammar of ‘short-form drama’, which heightens immersion in the blink of an eye, it weaves the genre delights of spy fiction and possession stories with density. Against the backdrop of an increasingly fragmented content-consumption trend, it is expected to become a strong “killer content” that grabs viewers’ attention in an instant.
