A 2-year-and-6-month wait that broke the silence—an even bigger world of killers
Disney+’s well-made action thriller “Killer Mall” finally opens its second chapter. A Season 2 equipped with a more finely tuned universe and an overwhelming scale—led by actor “Lee Dong-wook”—will unveil on the 22nd. With the addition of Japan’s leading star “Okada Masaki”, a sweeping narrative spanning East Asia is set to be revealed, and the production is fully prepared to surpass the box-office-breaking boom of the previous installment.

“If we can’t top the previous installment, it won’t matter”… The evolved return of the killers
The press conference held in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, on the 20th was charged with tight tension and confidence about the new season. Lee Dong-wook, who plays “Jung Jin-man,” the anchor at the center of the story, did not hide the weight of the success of the first installment. He said, “There was no reason to come back unless we had the fun and the finish that surpass Season 1,” underscoring his determination. The key point to watch this season is, above all, the “signature action” uniquely assigned to each character. Beyond simple impact, action sequences erupt inside a meticulously calculated universe, promising an extreme level of immersion for viewers.

From Muay Thai to gun action… A comeback from a nephew and his uncle that flips the table
In January 2024, Season 1, created based on author Kang Ji-young’s novel “The Shopping Mall of Murderers”, earned praise as a genre standout. In the newly unfolding Season 2, a bloody counterattack is staged as Uncle Jung Jin-man, who returns alive from the brink of death, and nephew “Jung Ji-an” (played by Kim Hye-jun), who becomes the new owner of the shopping mall, go head-to-head against the ruthless mercenary organization “Babylon.” Director Lee Gwon, who took the megaphone, raised the volume of the story by fitting together puzzle pieces from the many mysteries left behind in the first installment. In particular, Kim Hye-jun said, “This time, we go beyond the previous installment’s hand-to-hand fighting, and we will present an intense ‘gunfight action’,” previewing an action rush taken to a higher level.

“Catharsis” forged through global casting… New blood that will change the landscape
The new faces added to the already solid lineup will heighten the tension in the drama. Joining as key figures for Babylon’s East Asia branch are Jeon Yoon-ha and Hyun Lee, while Okada Masaki has taken the ace role “J.” Making a challenge in a Korean project for the first time in his acting career, Okada Masaki said, “With the help of fellow actors, including Lee Dong-wook, I got to experience the essence of ‘action’,” sharing a special sense of feeling. Amid a trend for genre thrills that have recently hit the content market, Lee Dong-wook said, “Rather than chasing trends, we focused on the ‘originality’ we do best,” showing heavy confidence.
