The master of mythology reborn with 'digital grammar' breaks 16 years of silence

Hong Eun-young, the creator who brought to life the mega-hit work 'Greek and Roman Mythology' in South Korea’s publishing-comics industry, has returned after a long hiatus from writing. She is unveiling new work, 'Hong Eun-young's Egyptian Mythology', for the first time in 16 years, with exclusive distribution through 'Naver Webtoon', taking the stage in a new battleground: the digital platform.

'Naver Webtoon' announced on the 23rd that it would roll out the writer’s new series immediately through its own platform and 'Naver Series', and that it has confirmed weekly Thursday releases. It marks a historic comeback made possible for the first time in 16 years since the publication of 'Greek and Roman Mythology 7: Perseus' in 2010. It is a decisive moment when a publishing-industry legend moved its stage to the mobile ecosystem.

In this new release, 'Hong Eun-young's Egyptian Mythology', the artist zeroes in on an expansive ancient Egyptian saga in which gods and humans, life and death, and power and fate are intricately intertwined. Expanding her universe from the Western civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome into the mysterious sandstorms of Egypt, the writer reinterprets her signature overwhelming storytelling and meticulous artwork in a modern 'webtoon grammar' and presents it to readers.

The most notable change is that the author has chosen 'scroll-based serialization' for the first time since her debut. Hong said, "As I’m returning after a long time with a brand-new work, my excitement is huge, and I sincerely thank the readers who have been waiting." She added, "Since this is my first attempt at 'scroll webtoon', I prepared intensely so that the grand scenes of mythology and the vitality of the characters can be delivered to readers as-is on their mobile screens," signaling her firm determination as a creator.
