A massive narrative destined to dominate the living-room viewing experience is ready to roll out. Actor “Kim Woo-bin” returns as the head of a high school baseball team that has been stuck at the bottom nationwide.

On the 5th, tvN officially announced, “We have confirmed Kim Woo-bin as the lead in the new drama ‘Gift,’ widely considered one of this year’s biggest releases to watch in the second half, and we are starting preparations for broadcast in earnest.” Through this work, he will challenge a new genre, ‘sports drama,’ built on a webtoon original, and prove his acting range with no limits.

‘Gift,’ adapted from the webtoon of the same name by writer Jeong I-ri-i, follows the eventful early tenure of a former pro baseball pitching coach who, after an untoward accident, gains an extraordinary ability to see through ‘baseball talent’ at a glance. Kim Woo-bin takes on the role of the protagonist ‘Jeong Min-yong,’ who anchors the story. He is expected to play a three-dimensional character who reshapes a baseball team drowning in defeatism with his own unconventional data and insight, maximizing the drama’s pull with his trademark heavy charisma and finely tuned emotional arc.

The so-called perfect ‘triangle’ of writer, director, and actor also stands out. The screenplay will be co-written by writers Min-jeong, Hae-ju, and Se-eun, with a tight, fast-moving storyline promised. In addition, ‘Director Kim Gyu-tae’ and Director Ham Seung-hoon—who have left major marks in Korean drama history with such works as ‘The World They Live In’ and ‘Our Blues’—will jointly direct, creating a well-made visual experience.
