Addictive ‘Same-Old Flavor’ Star-Crossed Romance! Netflix Series “Our Sticky Love” Wraps Production-Launch Event

A romantic comedy depicting the thrilling, stick-to-your-soul cohabitation of prosecutor Go Eun-sae (Ha-young), who is suffering from amnesia, and boxing coach Jang Tae-ha (Jeong Hae-in), who claims—on his own—that he is her boyfriend, has held a successful production-launch event today (the 5th). Director Kim Jang-han and actors Jeong Hae-in, Ha-young, and Heo Sung-tae attended, traded stories about the project, and raised expectations for the arrival of a romance that hits like an addictive “familiar flavor.”

First, director Kim Jang-han introduced the Netflix series’ first directorial work, 〈Our Sticky Love〉, saying, “It begins with a situation where Go Eun-sae, a character with amnesia, wakes up to find that Jang Tae-ha is telling her he is her boyfriend. You can meet Tae-ha, who performs the role of her boyfriend in order to protect Eun-sae against the denial. In ‘Eot Village,’ all kinds of chaos and mishaps happen constantly. And Eun-sae goes through her phase of refusing to get into him, while Tae-ha shows the ‘pure devotion’ of a romantic lead in a warm drama.” He added, “There was a point where the expression itself hooks you. It is also an expression of Eun-sae’s situation, and the sweet, sticky ‘eot’ serves as a medium that conveys the two people’s love well. Depending on what ingredients you use, you can create a variety of tastes, and I thought that ability to see different sides would fit the work perfectly,” explaining the special meaning behind the intriguing title.

Jeong Hae-in also said that when he first heard the title, he thought, “It felt daring. It’s a work with a sweet, sticky kind of charm, like ‘eot.’” He continued, “The back-and-forth story of Tae-ha and Eun-sae was compelling. I became so engrossed that I kept wondering what would happen in the next episode the more I read. As a romantic comedy, the story is layered on, and as it attaches elements of melodrama and then thriller and noir, it shows action before returning to romantic comedy again. It’s a work with a lot of different charms, and that was why I chose it.” Ha-young said she was hooked after reading the script for the first time: “It was so fun I could read it all in one sitting, and it had strong pull. The dialogue felt alive, and I became deeply immersed to the point where I could instantly step into the characters. The moment I thought, ‘Oh, so that’s how you unfold ‘eot’ like this,’ I became Eun-sae that very day I first read the script.” Heo Sung-tae added, “It started with ‘Are you kidding me?’ but the more you read, the more you feel like there couldn’t be a better title than this one. Especially in conversations with the director and writer about the essence of life and the essence of people, the atmosphere really clicked. Since it’s two actors I’ve wanted to meet in real life, there was absolutely no reason not to do it,” piquing the audience’s anticipation.

Jeong Hae-in plays “Jang Tae-ha,” a boxing coach who is somehow suspicious and who poses as Eun-sae’s boyfriend. Describing the character as the “textbook case of pure devotion,” he said, “No matter what situation comes up, it was cool how he keeps doing his best without stopping to protect the person he loves. Since he’s been a lifelong single, he’s awkward at times and a little clumsy when he faces the woman he likes, but that awkwardness came off as charming to me.” He then added, “Depending on the changing situations and the people you encounter, he had to show totally different sides. We also worked hard to show action that has a different line, not just the same kind. By meeting Eun-sae, we wanted viewers to naturally feel the process of change little by little, so I paid close attention to costumes and hairstyles.” He shared the focus of his acting, and further heightened expectations for Jeong Hae-in’s range of charms.

Ha-young, who plays the elite prosecutor “Go Eun-sae,” said, “Before losing her memory, she lived as a prosecutor named ‘Go Ji-won.’ She gets caught up in some kind of incident and loses her memory, then returns to her original self as Eun-sae. You could say it’s Eun-sae’s growth story. As she meets Tae-ha and people from Eot Village, she becomes a better person—so it’s a narrative about that. And in that process, she meets someone who claims he’s the world’s coolest boyfriend, and she learns a lot from him as the kind of person who teaches her many things.” She expressed her affection for the character. Most of all, as she sets out on her first challenge in the romantic comedy genre through 〈Our Sticky Love〉, she said, “As a fan of romantic comedy, my desire was big to do well. Luckily, I was able to meet a good script, and thanks to the director and my fellow actors, I learned a lot and was happy filming.” Heo Sung-tae, who plays “Baek Sang-gil,” the boss of an unusual organization, said, “He is the CEO of a company called ‘Future Eden Company,’ and he is the boss. He’s a person whose status is hidden from society through identity changes. He’s truly ruthless and has an incredible drive and obsession. He’s trying to eliminate Go Ji-won, whose weak points he holds, and then he hears that she’s alive—because of that, the story connects like a storm.” He promised standout work from what sounds like an all-time high-tier villain. He added, “Among the villains I’ve played so far, I think his social standing has been the highest. He’s a villain who has both a great narrative and a cool side—he’s an attractive villain,” raising more curiosity.

Director Kim Jang-han explained why he cast the three by saying, “There are many places where the actors’ natural personalities fit the characters well.” He continued, “With actor Jeong Hae-in, I thought that while he is straightforward, he also has a ‘manly’ side, so we can show Tae-ha as well when he’s part of the organization. Romantic comedy with Eun-sae is also important. When he’s in the organization, he shouldn’t just look awkward and clumsy—he has to look cute and lovable, too. And the actor had that kind of lovability.” He added, “Because Eun-sae ends up facing situations where she collides with people around her in a strange environment where she has lost her memory, I think it’s important to portray the character so she doesn’t come off as hateful. Ha-young fits that well—she’s bright, full of laughter, and also someone with a lot of tears, so she matches perfectly with portraying a lovable Eun-sae. As for actor Heo Sung-tae, from just his visuals you might think he could be scary, but when you actually meet him, he’s shy and pure. He may have been introduced as an incredible villain, but since he’s the character who holds the key to the twist, I saw that side he can show well,” offering praise for the actors without holding back.

Interest also ran high in Jeong Hae-in and Ha-young, who are sharing their first on-screen romance. Defining the relationship between Tae-ha and Eun-sae—inseparable “Jang Tae-ha and Go Eun-sae”—as “eot,” Jeong Hae-in said, “As the temperature rises and it gets hotter, the ‘eot’ clings to each other more firmly and tightly. Even for Tae-ha and Eun-sae, when many hardships and trials come, it’s precisely in those moments that the relationship becomes even more solid, and they stick together to overcome them.” Ha-young said Eun-sae is “an anxious girlfriend with a secure boyfriend,” adding, “Because Eun-sae is in a situation where she’s lost her memory, she has no choice but to feel anxious. Next to Eun-sae is Tae-ha, the stable boyfriend who persistently and steadily offers love, and because of him she comes to feel what true love is and becomes someone who can give love. That’s the relationship that shows up in the work, and it also heightens expectations for the chemistry between the two people that will be revealed.”

You can’t miss the appearance of the “Eot Village people,” who bring plenty of fun, emotion, and comfort. Trusted actors armed with their own distinct charms—Kim Young-ok, Jeon Bae-soo, Seo Jeong-yeon, Jang Hye-jin, Cha Cheong-hwa, Kim Mi-hwa, Lee Jae-won, and Jeong Soon-won, among others—take on roles as characters that grow alongside Jang Tae-ha and Go Eun-sae. Director Kim Jang-han said, “The main stage is Eot Village, and that’s important. In Eot Village, we needed good adults who would become on Tae-ha and Eun-sae’s side and help them grow. They aren’t drawn as ‘good adults’ only. There is a growth story of their own as well, and these are the kinds of actors who can express such a complex side well,” setting expectations for the various episodes that will unfold in “Eot Village.”

In the end, director Kim Jang-han pointed out the things to watch in the show, saying, “Our drama is very Korean, but if Korean-style dramas can be loved around the world, I’d like that to happen.
