The upcoming film 〈Gyeongju Trip〉 has released new stills of Byun Yohan as Baek Sang-hyun, the mysterious man targeted by the film’s four mothers and daughters.
〈Gyeongju Trip〉 is a family revenge drama about four mothers and daughters who, after eight years of waiting, set out on a journey of revenge for their youngest daughter, Gyeong-ju, who never returned from a school trip. In the film, the character 'Baek Sang-hyun,' played by Byun Yohan, is the man who took the youngest daughter Gyeong-ju from Ok-sil (Lee Jungeun)'s family eight years earlier. Just after completing an eight-year prison term and being released, he is kidnapped by the four mothers and daughters while unconscious from an anesthetic, adding suspense to the story.
To convey the character’s unsettling presence, Byun Yohan completely transformed his appearance: messy hair, a scruffy beard, rough-looking skin and even a mouthpiece designed to discolor his teeth. He also studied the character’s gait and anxious gaze to emphasize the figure’s oddness.
Byun Yohan also took the role without pay. Byun said, "I was drawn to the project because it is produced by the producer of my first commercial film, 〈Will You Be There?〉, and the script was really good," adding, "I wanted to lend my support alongside actors including Lee Jungeun." Director Kim Mijo praised him, saying, "Byun Yohan is a professional actor who captures hidden contexts in the script that you wouldn't expect."
Starring Lee Jungeun, Gong Hyojin, Park Sodam, Lee Yeon and Byun Yohan, the film 〈Gyeongju Trip〉 opens in theaters on Wednesday, August 26.
