Modern swing-jazz master 'Scott Hamilton' and the European jazz elite’s 'Rob van Bavel Trio' will meet Korean fans for their first official performance in the country. The organizers, RNM Music, said Aug. 31 that the artists will take the stage together Oct. 18 at Seoul’s JCC Art Center for an autumn evening of jazz.
Since making his debut in the 1970s, 'Scott Hamilton' has built an international reputation with his rich tone and lyrical playing. This marks his first official visit to Korea, giving jazz fans a rare opportunity to hear his mature tenor saxophone playing in person.
Joining him onstage, 'Rob van Bavel' is a leading Dutch jazz pianist and composer. He earned the runner-up spot in the first Thelonious Monk Competition and has won high praise in the European jazz scene. For this Korean performance, he will appear with a trio featuring piano, guitar and bass, delivering outstanding technique and a rich sense of swing.
The concert will center on songs from an album recorded live in the Netherlands last year. A 'string ensemble' will also join the performers to play jazz standards including Autumn in New York and In the Still of the Night, along with Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2. The program will highlight the rich depth of 'classic swing jazz' alongside the lyricism of classical music.
“Scott Hamilton’s mature tenor saxophone playing and the Rob van Bavel Trio’s delicate, flexible performance will be enriched by the string ensemble’s deep resonance, vividly recreating the album’s emotional impact onstage,” the organizers said.
