SM Jazz Trio has announced the release of their first project album 'Pink Note' on the 10th, according to SM Classics. This album is gaining attention as a unique attempt to reinterpret major hit songs owned by SM Entertainment in the jazz genre.
The album name 'Pink Note' was created by combining 'Blue Note', which signifies a symbolic jazz club and the musical language of jazz, with 'Pink Blood', symbolizing SM's identity.
The album includes the double title tracks 'Only One' and 'Growl', which are newly arranged versions of representative songs by BoA and EXO. Additionally, it features a total of 10 tracks arranged in jazz style, including 'Hug' (originally by TVXQ), 'Miracle' (originally by Super Junior), and 'Gee' (originally by Girls' Generation).
The music videos for 'Only One' and 'Growl' contain elements symbolizing BoA and EXO, who performed the original songs. This is interpreted as a demonstration of SM's intellectual property (IP) expansion strategy.
SM Jazz Trio consists of jazz pianist Johan Kim, bassist Hwang Ho-kyu, and drummer Kim Jong-kook. The three musicians are recognized for their outstanding skills in their respective fields, and through this project, they aim to break down the boundaries between K-pop and jazz, presenting new musical attempts.
