Harlem-born rapper Max B was released on November 9, completing a 16-year prison sentence. His long-time friend and collaborator French Montana shared an emotional video of their reunion on Instagram, announcing the news of his release.

Reduced from 75 years to 20 years, free after 16 years

Max B was sentenced to 75 years in 2009 for charges including murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping, but it became controversial as he was found guilty of conspiracy despite not being at the crime scene. In 2016, the original ruling was invalidated due to a conflict of interest with his attorney, and he acknowledged guilt for aggravated manslaughter, resulting in a 20-year reduction of his sentence.

Max B revealed his release date during a podcast phone appearance in November 2024, stating, "It's November 9, 2025. Wavy Baby is coming back soon".

The Return of the 'Wave God' in Hip Hop

Max B rose to fame as an underground rap star with his debut mixtape 'Million Dollar Baby' in 2006. His melodic and emotional style was known as the 'Wave' style, breaking away from the traditional East Coast hip hop, influencing many artists including Kanye West, who sampled him in his song 'Famous'.

After his release, Max B must undergo a 5-year mandatory supervision period by the New Jersey Parole Board. He has already announced a 7-day tour and has been preparing to resume his music activities even while incarcerated. His catalog is set to be released on streaming services this month. The hip hop community considers his return one of the most anticipated events of 2025.
