Actor Kim Ji-won returns to television as a genius surgeon who has never known failure. SBS officially announced that its new Friday-Saturday drama, ‘Doctor X: The Era of the White Mafia’, will premiere Oct. 9.

The series is a medical noir that meticulously follows a genius doctor dispatched to fill a vacancy in the surgery department at Guseo University Hospital as she takes on a medical power structure riddled with corruption. Kim Ji-won, who has proven her solid acting skills, takes the central role of Gye Su-jeong, a protagonist known for uncompromising surgical ability and clear-eyed judgment.

The addition of a distinguished cast with a commanding presence is also raising expectations. Lee Jung-eun plays Jang Hee-sook, the enigmatic head of a doctors-for-hire agency, and will regulate the tension throughout the series. Son Hyun-joo takes the role of Bu Seung-kwon, the ambitious director of a branch of Guseo University Hospital, setting up a sharp confrontation.

Director Lee Jung-rim, whose exceptional skills have been recognized through well-crafted genre series including ‘VIP’ and ‘The Guest’, is at the helm, while writer Pyeon Seong-geun is penning the script, promising a more polished narrative.
