Fingernail-eating ‘Mousetrap’ hits the mark, tops Netflix’s global non-English shows

The tracking thriller 〈Mousetrap〉, which follows novelist Moon Jae after a mysterious entity called “Mousetrap” steals his name, face and entire life, as well as loan shark No Ja, who is trying to recover lost money, and detective Sun-yong as they pursue the entity’s identity, has risen to No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English TV list and released 15 previously unseen stills. In its second week, 〈Mousetrap〉 recorded 4,400,000 views (the number calculated by dividing viewing time by the show’s total runtime). It also landed on the Top 10 lists in 45 countries, including South Korea, Malaysia, Oman, the Philippines, Argentina, Mexico, Hungary, Egypt and Nigeria, underscoring its surging popularity.

The newly released stills capture everything from the search for “Mousetrap” (Ryu Jun-yeol) to the moment its true identity is revealed, drawing attention from viewers. A shot of “Mousetrap” with “Su-hyeon” (Moo Jin-sung) recalls the event that set Moon Jae on the path to losing everything. Other images show Moon Jae, No Ja (Sul Kyung-gu) and Sun-yong (Lee Kyu-hyung) pursuing the truth about “Mousetrap.”

No Ja wants to punish Moon Jae more than anyone, yet he holds nothing back in the search for “Mousetrap.” Sun-yong grows increasingly confused as pursuing “Mousetrap” leaves even his own identity shrouded in mystery. Their stories heighten the tension and pull viewers deeper into the series. The appearance of Sun-yong’s maternal uncle, in particular, provides a crucial clue to why Sun-yong became entangled in this case, adding another layer of intrigue.

The stills also evoke the shocking truth concealed behind a twist, capturing the unsettling atmosphere among Moon Jae, “Yoo-min” (Park Yoon-ho) and “Min-young” (Song Soo-yi). Images of “Seung-gyu” (Kim Sung-oh) confronting “Mousetrap” and editor-in-chief “Han Ji-hye” (Lee El), who worked with Moon Jae, convey extreme tension on their own.
