Charlotte Gainsbourg set for 31st Busan festival, explains why she chose 'Melancholia'

Cannes Best Actress winner to hold special talk with Jung Eun-chae on the sixth of next month

French cultural icon and internationally acclaimed actor 'Charlotte Gainsbourg' will meet Korean audiences at the '31st Busan International Film Festival'.

According to festival organizers on the 19th, Gainsbourg will visit Busan in person this year for film screenings as well as in-depth conversations through a special talk and a Cine Class. The appearance goes beyond a routine guest event, offering domestic fans a rare opportunity to engage closely with the artistic path she has built as a muse to great filmmakers.

She burst onto the scene in 1985, winning the César Award for Most Promising Actress for 'An Impudent Girl', and went on to build a singular filmography spanning genres, including 'The Little Thief' (1988), '21 Grams' (2003) and 'I'm Not There' (2007). In 2009, she reached the pinnacle of her acting career by winning the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress award for director 'Lars von Trier's' 'Antichrist'. She then appeared in 'Melancholia' (2011) and 'Nymphomaniac' (2013), firmly establishing herself as von Trier's commanding on-screen persona.

The festival's most anticipated event is a special screening of 'Melancholia', selected personally by Gainsbourg. A special talk with South Korean actor 'Jung Eun-chae' will follow the screening. Gainsbourg is expected to speak candidly about behind-the-scenes stories from the intense shoot, her distinctive collaboration with von Trier and the acting philosophy she has refined over decades.

Asia's largest film festival, the '31st Busan International Film Festival', will open in grand fashion from the sixth through the 15th of next month around the 'Busan Cinema Center' in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
