MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama 〈Liar〉 (directed by Jo Young-min and written by Baek Jae-young) has confirmed its Oct. 30 premiere and released photos from its script reading session on Sept. 22.
〈Liar〉 is a high-intensity psychological thriller about a man and a woman who clash fiercely on their path to the truth as they make diametrically opposed claims about a single memory. The drama has drawn attention for reuniting Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin 10 years after Dr. Romantic, with Jo Young-min, whose delicate direction of emotion has earned critical praise, at the helm.
The script reading session brought together director Jo Young-min and writer Baek Jae-young, along with the principal cast: Yoo Yeon-seok as Min Jun-ho, Seo Hyun-jin as Kang Ji-sun, Ok Ja-yeon as Lee Hwa-young, Lim Seong-jae as Park Seok-gu, Kim Ji-hyun as Kang Ji-eun and Lee Chun-hee as Kim Hyeong-su.
Yoo Yeon-seok plays Min Jun-ho, a coolheaded cardiac surgeon and warm single father, delivering a multidimensional performance that moves between tenderness and chill. Seo Hyun-jin plays Kang Ji-sun, an elementary school librarian and teacher, capturing with intensity the character’s rapidly shifting emotions after her date with Min Jun-ho. The two actors, working together for the first time in 10 years, heightened the immersion on set with their exceptional chemistry.
They are joined by a strong ensemble, including Ok Ja-yeon as Lee Hwa-young, a detective in the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division; Lim Seong-jae as Park Seok-gu, a UDT officer; Kim Ji-hyun as Kang Ji-eun, an anesthesiologist; and Lee Chun-hee as Kim Hyeong-su, Kang Ji-sun’s brother-in-law. Their performances bring out the appeal of the psychological thriller genre.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama 〈Liar〉, which stars Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin in an anticipated acting showdown, premieres Friday, Oct. 30, at 9:50 p.m.
