The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping unveils 12 press stills, revealing control behind dazzling spectacle

The film 〈The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping〉 (directed by Francis Lawrence) has unveiled 12 press stills capturing its imposing scale and suspense ahead of its Nov. 18 theatrical release.

Set against the 50th Death Game, the deadliest in history with a 0% survival rate, 〈The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping〉 is an intelligent survival thriller. The film follows Haymitch (Joseph Zada), a genius who received the all-time lowest score of 1 point, as he uses his extraordinary intellect to hack the rules of a rigged live broadcast and bring down the system of control.

The newly released stills offer a detailed look at everything from the reaping ceremony in District 12 and the tributes being transported to the atmosphere of Panem, where surveillance and control have become part of everyday life. The images create palpable tension through confrontations involving tributes surrounded by soldiers in white uniforms, spectators gathered beneath blue spires and an arena in the forest where even a single petal has been programmed to kill.

The neon-lit live broadcast stage, the host in a dazzling costume and President Snow (Ralph Fiennes), shown with white hair, symbolize how the Hunger Games have become both a vast entertainment spectacle consumed by all of Panem and a tool of its power structure.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, who has led the series, 〈The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping〉 features Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Maya Hawke, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. The film is scheduled to open in theaters Nov. 18.
