Lionsgate released the teaser trailer for the latest installment of the legendary dystopian franchise 'The Hunger Games', titled 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping', on November 20 (local time). This video, released exactly one year before the release date, provided fans with the first real preview of the film.
The film is set to be released in IMAX theaters worldwide on November 20, 2026.
The story is set 24 years before the first 'Hunger Games', during the 50th Hunger Games, specifically the Second Quarter Quell on the Reaping morning. As a result, each district had to send double the usual tributes, and a total of 48 children had to fight for survival.
The protagonist is the young version of Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson in the original series. Actor Joseph Zada will portray young Haymitch, delving deeply into the character's narrative.
All-Star Casting and Production Team
The film features a dazzling all-star cast. Elle Fanning plays young Eppie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes portrays President Coriolanus Snow, Kieran Culkin takes on the role of Caesar Flickerman, and Jesse Plemons plays young Plutarch Heavensbee.
The direction is once again handled by Francis Lawrence, who successfully directed the previous installments, with Billy Ray writing the screenplay. Producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson also return for the project.
The original work is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, and the original novel, published in March 2025, sold 1.5 million copies worldwide in its first week, marking the largest debut in the series.
The released teaser trailer features Joseph Zada's Haymitch fighting in the game arena for the first time, including a scene where he says, "I think this game will be different", heightening the tension. The 'Hunger Games' franchise has earned over $3.3 billion at the global box office across five films.
