"Katniss and Peeta Return"... Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson Confirm Return to 'The Hunger Games' After 10 Years

"The flames of Panem have not extinguished." The icon of 'The Hunger Games', Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, reunite after 10 years.

On the 12th (local time), The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reported that the two actors have confirmed their appearance in the latest installment of the series 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'. This marks their first return since 'Mockingjay Part 2' in 2015.

◆ 24 Years Ago, Hearing Hamitch's Tragedy

This film, set to be released on November 20, 2026, takes place 24 years before the first film during the 50th Hunger Games (Second Quarter Quell). It depicts the survival journey of 16-year-old Hamitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) among 48 participants.

Despite being a prequel, the reason Lawrence (Katniss) and Hutcherson (Peeta) are appearing is due to the structure of the original work. The two are expected to appear in the film's epilogue or in an inserted Flash-forward scene, where they will hear the tragic past story from an older Hamitch.

In the original novel, Hamitch suffers, questioning, "What does it mean to experience all loss again after the war?" There is anticipation for how this emotional line will be portrayed in the film.

The determination of the two actors to return was firm. Hutcherson stated in a recent interview, "I would run anytime if it’s with director Francis Lawrence and Jennifer," and Lawrence also expressed, "If Katniss returns to my life, I would do it 100% willingly."
