A Thrilling New K-Rom-Com Is Here! Netflix Series ‘Take Charge of My Heart’ Holds Production Press Conference

A jolt-filled romantic comedy about a man whose artificial-heart battery has run out and a woman with electrical powers.

The jolt-filled romantic comedy 〈Take Charge of My Heart〉, about a man whose artificial-heart battery has run out and a woman with electrical powers, successfully held its production press conference on Thursday, the 1st. Director Park Soo-won, Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin attended the event, where they shared excitement about the series and offered a preview of the addictive new K-rom-com.

〈Take Charge of My Heart〉 marks director Park Soo-won's first romantic comedy. He described it as “a work with the unique concept of a ‘rapid-charge romance,’ in which a woman who shocks people whenever she touches them meets, for the first time, a man who doesn't get shocked, and begins developing a romance for the first time.” He explained why he chose the project, saying, “I thought that if people like us, who are busy living our lives and becoming drained, can be recharged—or if we can recharge someone else—then perhaps that would make life worthwhile. In that sense, I was moved by the warmth at the heart of 〈Take Charge of My Heart〉.” He also outlined his approach to directing, saying, “I worked to make it something viewers can enjoy without having to overthink, as if they were being recharged in comfort.” His comments heightened anticipation for 〈Take Charge of My Heart〉, which moves between humor and excitement.

Kim Young-kwang, returning to romantic comedy after a long absence, said the series reminded him “of the feeling I had when I first encountered comic books. The comic-book-like premise and situations were fun,” explaining why he chose the project. Chae Soo-bin, who plays a special character with electrical powers, raised expectations by saying, “I was persuaded when the director said that, although it was a familiar flavor, he was confident he could make it truly delicious. The story is bouncy and cute, but it also has warmth.”

Kim Young-kwang plays Baek Ho-rang, a third-generation chaebol heir whose artificial-heart battery has run out, promising an irresistibly romantic performance. Describing Baek Ho-rang as “a ‘plan man’ who makes plans for everything and a third-generation chaebol heir with the goal of taking over the family business,” Kim added, “I paid close attention to the costumes and visual details to convey the feeling of a third-generation chaebol heir. He is also a heartbreaking character because he hides his weaknesses in order to appear perfect, so I worked to portray him with even greater restraint at those moments.” He highlighted the thought he put into bringing the character to life.

Chae Soo-bin plays Na Bo-bae, a drama writer whose romantic life has run out of power, and brought an even more lovable presence to the event. She described Na Bo-bae, saying, “Na Bo-bae was struck by lightning as a child and gained the ability to conduct electricity. She is a romance writer, but she has never dated. She is the kind of person who begins a charging romance to save Baek Ho-rang, a ‘human rubber glove’ immune to her powers.” She added, “Because she can't control her ability as she wishes, she struggles to avoid harming other people. She is extremely lonely, but also innocent and bright,” adding to anticipation for the distinctive appeal of 〈Take Charge of My Heart〉.

The chemistry between Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin generated especially strong interest in the series. Asked about their dynamic, director Park Soo-won praised the actors, saying, “Their visual pairing and romantic chemistry were so good they needed no explanation. Their comedic chemistry was especially strong, and there were times I deliberately didn't call cut. You can look forward to their ‘real chemistry.’” He further raised expectations by explaining the relationship between their characters: “They begin as two people who don't like each other but need each other, and their relationship develops into one in which they embrace each other's complexes and weaknesses as they are, offering one another healing.”

The performances of Cha Woo-min, Jung Jae-kwang, Shin Do-hyun, Heo Dong-won and Kim Mi-kyung, among other actors with a wide range of appeal, also drew attention. Director Park Soo-won described Ji Eun-ho as “a top star who creates a love-triangle dynamic between Baek Ho-rang and Na Bo-bae. He is younger than them, but has the spirit to stand up to Baek Ho-rang,” previewing Cha Woo-min's appeal. Of Jung Jae-kwang, he said, “He is an actor with outstanding expressiveness who makes you curious about his character through his atmosphere and aura. Please look forward to the villain character created by an actor like that,” raising expectations for Choi Do-yoon's performance. Speaking about Shin Do-hyun, who plays Han Seol-hee, he added, “The coolness that emerges when Shin Do-hyun's urban, clear image collides with something fit the character of Han Seol-hee very well,” heightening curiosity about the three figures who will shake up Baek Ho-rang and Na Bo-bae's relationship.

Finally, director Park Soo-won pointed to the series' key appeal, saying, “The relationship that begins with a sense of humanity and develops after going through an intense period of denial over falling for someone is fascinating. Please look forward to the entertaining chemistry that grows more compelling with each episode, all the way to the end.” Kim Young-kwang asked viewers to anticipate the series, saying, “It's a dreamy, thrilling story that unfolds in a comic-book-like fantasy. I hope you enjoy it.” Chae Soo-bin added, “If you watch it and lose track of time, you'll receive warm and delightful comfort,” expressing her affection for 〈Take Charge of My Heart〉 and asking viewers to look forward to it. The series premieres exclusively on Netflix on Oct. 9.
