Legal dispute ends as girl group makes move to open its ‘third act’
The members of girl group ‘VIVIZ’ — Eunha, SinB and Umji — are set to resume full-fledged activities after finding a new home at music agency ‘Uncore’. Uncore announced on the 5th that it had signed exclusive contracts with the three artists and said it would actively support their activities across the board, after they had demonstrated strong solidarity over many years.
The move came immediately after the trio resolved its legal dispute with former agency Big Planet Made Entertainment. The three members became free agents after a court granted their request for an ‘injunction suspending the effect of their exclusive contracts’, which they filed over issues including ‘unpaid settlement payments.’
The artists debuted in 2015 as ‘GFRIEND’ and rose to the top of K-pop before regrouping as a trio in March 2022 and making a second debut under the name VIVIZ. Since then, they have demonstrated their formidable staying power with a string of hits, including ‘BOP BOP!’ and ‘MANIAC.’
The music industry is now focused on the trio’s ‘new team name.’ Uncore tried to negotiate with the former agency to secure the existing trademark rights, but the sides failed to reach an agreement because of differences over conditions. The agency is therefore seriously considering launching the artists under an entirely new name for their ‘third debut,’ in an effort to minimize their hiatus and expedite their return.
Fans will be watching to see what kind of synergy the trio’s steadfast bond, which turned a crisis into an opportunity, will produce. Details of their activity plans and the group’s final name will be unveiled in stages.
