From musical partners to lifelong companions: the meaning behind a special venue

Singer-songwriter EJAE, who earned worldwide acclaim for “Golden,” the theme song for the Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” has married producer and songwriter Sam Kim (Samuel Kim).

According to a report published on the 19th local time by Vogue, the U.S. fashion magazine, the couple held an outdoor wedding on the 17th at Stage 28 in Godeok-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul.

The couple had originally planned to marry in California next month, but decided to move the ceremony to Korea and bring the date forward by about a month. They had briefly put wedding preparations on hold amid an extensive promotional schedule and appearances at various awards ceremonies following the global success of “KPop Demon Hunters.” After about four months of intensive planning, they finally tied the knot.

The wedding venue, Stage 28, is said to be the former home of EJAE’s maternal grandfather, veteran actor Shin Young-kyun, a towering figure in Korean cinema—making the location all the more meaningful. It holds precious childhood memories for the bride and is a symbolic place where family history and special connections meet.

EJAE told Vogue in an exclusive interview, “The wedding planning process was a little hectic and stressful, but in the end, every element came together perfectly,” sharing her heartfelt reaction.

The couple’s connection, forged through their shared love of music, began in 2017 during a session for a songwriting project. They built deep trust as musical collaborators and partners, and announced their engagement last June, showing just how strong their bond was.

EJAE, who has the unusual distinction of having trained at SM Entertainment, has demonstrated her distinctive musical talent by contributing to major K-pop hits, including Red Velvet’s “Psycho” and aespa’s “Drama.”

Most notably, “Golden,” a global megahit that she wrote, composed and performed, won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, cementing her status as one of the world’s top artists.
