TVING original series 〈The Substitute〉 (directed by Park So-yeon and written by Choi Su) released a teaser trailer on the 26th capturing the precarious moments of young people caught up in a dangerous deal.
〈The Substitute〉 is an out-of-control crime thriller in which personal insecurities and desires collide on a single, life-defining day, driving the characters toward an irreversible crime. Facing an exam they must get through without falling behind, the characters engage in an intense battle of wits amid betrayals and tricks, with suspense at every turn.
The teaser opens with an ominous question from Nam Jae-yeop (Bae Hyun-sung): “Deal?” Jae-yeop appears to be a model student who has it all, but harbors a sense of inadequacy. As he becomes entangled with Kang Geon-tae (Cha Kang-yoon), a special scholarship student from a low-income family, and Geon-tae’s only close friend, Joo Hee-dong (Park Yoon-ho), the three young men’s relationship begins to spiral out of control. Mysterious bundles of cash and bloodstains, along with the phrases “One day with your life on the line” and “A deal that will turn everything upside down begins,” heighten the tension.
For this series, director Park So-yeon, who broke new ground in school-set psychological thrillers with 〈Pyramid Game〉, has teamed up with writer Choi Su. Studio Dragon, Sidus and Studio Woo Young-soo planned and produced the series, with Studio Two Hands as co-producer. Veteran performers Uhm Ji-won, Park Hyuk-kwon and Baek Ji-won join leads Bae Hyun-sung, Cha Kang-yoon and Park Yoon-ho, adding to the young cast’s fresh chemistry and elevating the production.
The TVING original series 〈The Substitute〉, which will portray a tense psychological battle among young people and an unconventional crime story, premieres exclusively on TVING on Monday, November 23.
