Kim Da-mi, the ‘Obedient Killer’: Her First Noir Next Year as a Housewife Who Takes Up a Gun

From ordinary housewife to assassin…building a distinctive world

Actors Kim Da-mi and Jo Bo-ah enter a ruthless world without mercy. Online video streaming service (OTT) TVING announced on the 29th that it had finalized the main cast for its new original series, The Obedient Killer, which is set for release next year.

The noir action drama follows Go Dal-bun (played by Kim Da-mi), an ordinary housewife who, after her divorce, takes a covert job with a mysterious assassination organization in a bloody struggle to win back her only daughter, who was taken from her.

In the series, Kim Da-mi plays Go Dal-bun, who has dreamed all her life of being a devoted wife and mother but is suddenly given the code name “Miss Go” and becomes a contract killer. She delivers a multifaceted performance in the role. Jo Bo-ah has been cast as “Miss Lee,” the organization’s brains and team leader, while Jo A-ram plays “Miss Gye,” the group’s lively mood-maker. Together, they complete an ensemble of three female killers, each with her own distinct character.

Actor Lee Chung-ah had initially been cast as Miss Lee and was preparing to film, but she had to withdraw because of a serious back injury. Jo Bo-ah will fill the vacant role.

The supporting cast is equally impressive. Actor Kim Jae-wook makes a special appearance as Section Chief Cha, a taciturn man whose true intentions are hard to read, adding tension to the story. Meanwhile, Nam Yoon-su plays rookie detective Jung Jung-won, who follows the clues in the case, adding a stronger investigative element to the drama.

The names behind the production are another reason for high expectations. Director Lee Jung-heum, praised for his distinctive style on the drama Inspector Koo, will helm the series, while writer Ju Hwa-mi, who penned The Atypical Family, will build its story. Kang Eun-kyung, who helped make the Gyeongseong Creature and Dr. Romantic series successful, will also join as creator, further raising the production’s overall quality.
