Marking the End of a Decade and a New Beginning, With an Even Stronger Panel of Guessers

MBC’s flagship music variety show, ‘King of Mask Singer,’ will return to viewers with an entirely new season after a hiatus of about 11 months. MBC officially announced on the 3rd that it has significantly revamped the existing format and will resume the show in December under a new title, ‘King of Mask Singer: Golden Mask.’

First aired in 2015, ‘King of Mask Singer’ is a distinctive music competition in which stars conceal their age, identity and profession, then face off using only their voices and vocal skills. The innovative concept has been exported to 53 countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, and is regarded as a landmark show that helped bring Korean variety programming to a global audience.

After bringing its first season, which ran for about 10 years, to a well-received close this January, the production team took time to carefully develop a high-quality new season. Under tight security, the team successfully completed its first taping in October at MBC’s Ilsan Dream Center and is now focused on post-production, with the premiere set for December.

The new season’s main attraction will be the fierce vocal showdown among contestants vying for the ‘Golden Mask,’ the symbol of the Mask King. A new panel of sharp-eyed guessers will join the show, heightening the suspense as they try to uncover the contestants’ identities.

The production team said, “We plan to present a stage transformed into a massive music festival that goes beyond a simple competition,” adding, “We will deliver an overwhelming scale and moving performances that live up to the expectations of viewers who have waited so long.”
