Taika Waititi Selected to Direct the Third Live-Action Film of 'Judge Dredd'

Director Taika Waititi has been appointed as the head of the new 'Judge Dredd'.

According to a report from 'The Hollywood Reporter', director Taika Waititi will take the helm of the new 'Judge Dredd' project, with a screenplay by Drew Pearce. Based on the comic of the same name, 'Judge Dredd' tells the story of Judge Dredd, who operates in Mega-City One, the only city in the world, in a distant future after a nuclear war.

This is the third live-action adaptation of the comic of the same name. In 1995, 'Judge Dredd' starred Sylvester Stallone, and in 2012, 'Judge Dredd' featured Karl Urban in the lead role. Although both films gained popularity later through word of mouth, they did not perform well at the box office upon their theatrical release, preventing a continuation of the series. With Taika Waititi directing this project, it is expected to have strong elements of black comedy.

Drew Pearce, who wrote the screenplay for this live-action adaptation, has recently penned the scripts for 'The Fall Guy' and 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation'.
