The OTT platform Disney+ has released musical performance videos.
On the 13th (Wednesday), Disney+ unveiled 〈Monte Cristo: The Musical Live〉 and 〈The Man Who Laughs〉. The story of young sailor Edmond Dantès seeking justice in 〈Monte Cristo: The Musical Live〉 showcases Kai's irreplaceable presence as he leads the fast-paced narrative with smooth charisma. With 250 costumes, 118 stage transitions, and a massive 2.5-ton stage set that decorates the climax, it is the first musical performance film to feature close-up shots using 14 8K cinematic cameras and dual filming for both live and non-live audiences.
〈The Man Who Laughs〉 is based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, set in 17th century England where class discrimination was severe. It questions the values of human dignity and equality through the life of 'Gwynplaine', a character with a horrific monster's face but a pure heart. Actor Park Kang-hyun, who has played the lead role of 'Gwynplaine' from the premiere to the third season, has received high praise from director Robert Johansson for becoming 'Gwynplaine' in a very beautiful way, showcasing explosive vocal power and delicate emotional expression to create a warm yet strong character. The unique stage aesthetics, music, and heavy messages combine to leave a strong aftertaste.
Disney+ is releasing six musical performances over three weeks this August. Starting with the release of 〈Elisabeth: The Musical Live〉 and 〈Phantom: The Musical Live〉 on the 6th (Wednesday), the next releases on August 20th (Wednesday) will be 〈Excalibur〉 and 〈Marie Antoinette〉.
