The number of monthly active users (MAU) for major online video service (OTT) applications in Korea has surpassed 20 million, establishing a new standard.

Market analysis solution 'Wise App·Retail', based on app and payment data, announced on the 29th that the combined MAU of major OTT service apps last month was recorded at 20.89 million, based on a sample survey of Korean smartphone users. This is an increase of about 3.6 million, or 21%, compared to 17.28 million in June 2022.

Wise App·Retail previously announced that the combined MAU of domestic OTT service apps had already exceeded 20 million in January last year. Although it temporarily decreased to 19.32 million in June last year, it recorded 21.21 million in May this year, proving the steady growth of the Korean OTT market.

Last month, the number of users by app showed that Netflix maintained the lead with 13.93 million users, accounting for 40% market share. Coupang Play followed with 7.32 million (21%), and Tving with 5.73 million (17%). Wave had 2.53 million (7%), Disney Plus had 1.90 million (6%), U+ Mobile TV had 1.15 million (3%), Raftel had 0.89 million (3%), Watcha had 0.53 million (2%), and SPOTV NOW had 0.50 million (1%), according to Wise App·Retail.
