Mortal Kombat 2 Delayed to 2026... Pushed Back 8 Months to Release in May

The exact reason has not been disclosed, but it is expected to have been moved in line with the overall trends in theaters.

〈Mortal Kombat 2〉 has chosen to delay its release.

The film 〈Mortal Kombat 2〉 is a sequel to the 〈Mortal Kombat〉 released in 2021, adapting the same-named game series into a movie. The first film focused on Cole Young, a distant descendant of 'Scorpion', dealing with the long-standing feud between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

The second film was originally aimed for release in October 2025, and a teaser trailer was released in July hinting at the release. The trailer featured the main story where actor Johnny Cage is chosen to participate in the fighting tournament Mortal Kombat. Not only Johnny Cage, but also characters from the game such as Sonya Blade, Kitana, Jade, and Shao Kahn made appearances, receiving positive feedback from fans.

However, two months before the scheduled release on August 30 (local time), Warner Bros. announced that the release date for 〈Mortal Kombat 2〉 has been adjusted to May 2026. The exact reason is not known, but it is speculated that the adjustment was made to target May, a month when theaters are bustling and many blockbusters are released.
