'The Master of the World' Director Yoon Ga-eun: "The Sexuality and Love of Adolescents Are Not Discussed in the Open"

Director Yoon Ga-eun shared her feelings about returning with her new work 〈The Master of the World〉 after six years.

Director Yoon Ga-eun, who has depicted the world of children in 〈Our Body〉 and 〈Our Home〉, expressed her thoughts on meeting the audience again during an interview held ahead of the release of her new film 〈The Master of the World〉.

First, Director Yoon explained the background of why it took six years to present her new work. "There were previous projects I was preparing, but the process of them falling through took a long time. Through this experience, I wanted to talk about the sexuality and love that teenage girls experience for the first time. This is a story I have wanted to tell for a long time, so I thought I could find my direction again," she said. She added, "While writing this story, there were topics I kept trying to avoid, and I was pushing away certain experiences of violence, but it took a long time to come to the resolution that I needed to look into them."

Regarding the reason for addressing the sexuality and love of teenagers, she stated, "There is definitely curiosity about sexuality and love among adolescents, and we vaguely know that culture. However, I felt that we are not yet able to discuss this accurately in the open. In fact, as an adult, I don't know well either, but my biggest desire was to at least reveal the existence of that culture."

The film 〈The Master of the World〉, which will be released on October 22, tells the story of an enigmatic eighteen-year-old high school girl named 'Juin' who begins to receive mysterious notes after she alone refuses to participate in a signature campaign involving the entire student body.
