Kim Hyang-gi Stars in the Jeju 4·3 Film 'Hallan' Special Screening in Jeju Before Release

Actor Kim Hyang-gi stars in the Jeju 4·3 themed film 〈Hallan〉, which will have a special screening in Jeju before its official release.

The Jeju Content Agency (JCA) announced on the 27th that a special screening of the 119-minute feature film 〈Hallan〉, directed by Ha Myung-mi, will take place. The screening will be held on the 30th at 7:15 PM at Lotte Cinema Jeju Yeondong, Hall 5.

This film tells the story of a mother and daughter who become separated while fleeing to Hallasan to escape from the military and police suppression during the Jeju 4·3 incident in 1948. Kim Hyang-gi plays the role of the protagonist, Ah-jin, while Kim Min-chae plays her daughter, Hae-sang, depicting their journey to survive in extreme circumstances.

The film's tagline, 'Is a truly good world coming?' prompts reflection on the chaos and historical tragedy that occurred on Jeju Island in 1948. The title 'Hallan' refers to the Hallasan orchid that blooms in winter, and the production team explained that they infused the film with the strong will and vitality of the Hallan.

〈Hallan〉 has gained attention by being selected for various support projects. It was chosen as a supported project for the Jeju Content Agency's Jeju Diversity Film Production Support in 2024 and for the Independent Art Film Production Support for newcomers by the Korean Film Council. It was also selected as the first work for the 'Indie Cinema Prosumer Fragment Investment' project, which supports independent film production in Gyeonggi Province.

It has also received international recognition, having been invited to the 30th Aichi International Women's Film Festival last September.

Audience members wishing to participate in the special screening can subscribe to the YouTube channel JCA by 5 PM on the 28th, fill out the Google form through the bulletin board link, and leave a comment 'Participation Completed' on the event post. The Jeju Content Agency stated that they will select about 50 people and notify them via text message.

〈Hallan〉 will officially be released in theaters nationwide on November 26.
