On November 12, the first Korean theatrical release of the fully remastered version of 〈Vampire Hunter D〉 is set to unveil a main poster that reveals its gothic aesthetics. The dark fantasy animation 〈Vampire Hunter D〉 depicts the lonely journey of 'D', a being caught between humans and vampires, and has officially released its main poster. This work, which is set for its first official release in Korea on November 12 (Wednesday), has restored the gothic aesthetics of the original work from 25 years ago in high definition through a complete remastering process.
The released poster showcases the tagline, "A beautiful and cruel epic of darkness, awakening after 25 years," featuring the silhouette of the hunter 'D' riding a black horse under the moonlight, exuding an overwhelming presence. Standing alone on a hill lined with tombstones against the backdrop of a massive full moon symbolizes the fate of the lonely hunter at the boundary between humans and vampires, as well as gothic tragedy. This poster, blending apocalyptic sensibility with a classic atmosphere, encapsulates the unique darkness, solitude, and aesthetic completeness of the film 〈Vampire Hunter D〉, heightening anticipation for its distinctive world view.
Notably, this release is a fully remastered version that retains the rough texture of the original from 2000 while correcting colors, contrasts, and resolutions for high-definition restoration. As the first screening in Korea after 25 years, it is expected to be a special opportunity to experience the avant-garde aesthetics of this animation on the big screen. Being referred to as the bible of the dark fantasy genre, this release is drawing attention as a legendary return that connects generations.
Set in the year 12,090 AD, against a backdrop of a gray world, 〈Vampire Hunter D〉 showcases the journey of 'D', a hybrid hunter who inherits the blood of vampires while being human. Walking the line between light and darkness, life and immortality, he is a legendary being burdened with a lonely fate, depicting all the tragedies and beauties of this world. This unique world view has been completed by director Yoshiyaki Kawajiri, who has established himself as a master in the history of Japanese animation with works like 〈Musa Jubei〉, through the aesthetics of gothic fantasy and sci-fi noir. Additionally, character designer Yutaka Minowa from 〈Friedan of the Funeral〉 and 〈Kaiju No. 8〉 joined to create detailed character depictions and dynamic action, while Italian film composer Marco D'Ambrosio's OST added to the tragic beauty of the narrative with the red moonlight. The gothic aesthetics completed through this collaboration continue to leave a deep impression on fans even after 25 years, remaining an immortal legend of 〈Vampire Hunter D〉.
