Singer Jeon Somi Accused of Unauthorized Use of Red Cross Logo for Beauty Brand Products

Singer Jeon Somi has been reported to the police for allegedly using the Red Cross logo (mark) without permission in the product design of her launched beauty brand 'GLYF'.

On the 7th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they had received a complaint against Jeon Somi and the CEO of 'Bubul Korea', Mr. A, for violating the Red Cross Organization Act.

The beauty brand 'GLYF', launched by Bubul Korea and Jeon Somi, has recently been criticized for including a red cross mark on a white background first aid kit during the promotion of new products, which is similar to the Red Cross mark.

The complainant, whose identity is unknown, reportedly stated that the use of the Red Cross mark, which should be used for medical and relief activities, in a commercial context could dilute its symbolic meaning and cause serious damage to trust and neutrality, especially in relief situations.

According to Article 25 of the Red Cross Organization Act, individuals or organizations that do not receive permission from the Red Cross cannot use the 'red cross mark on a white background' for business or promotional purposes.

As the controversy spread, Jeon Somi's beauty brand GLYF issued an immediate apology statement to quell the controversy. The brand stated, "We deeply apologize for the production that was made without recognizing the historical and humanitarian significance and legal protection of the Red Cross mark."

GLYF also added that they are currently halting the posting of the controversial design and related content and are taking preventive measures to ensure that such issues do not occur again in the future.
