
Veteran actress Sally Kirkland, a Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award nominee, was confirmed to be receiving hospice care at a hospital in Palm Springs, California on November 9. Her manager stated that the 81-year-old Kirkland has been fighting dementia for the past year.
Fall, Infection, and Huge Medical Bills
Kirkland has faced serious health issues in recent months. According to a GoFundMe campaign started by friends, she suffered four cervical vertebrae fractures, a right wrist fracture, and a left hip fracture after falling in the shower, and during recovery, she experienced two life-threatening infections. Due to hospitalizations and rehabilitation that exceed the insurance coverage period, huge medical bills have arisen, prompting friends to conduct a fundraising campaign.
Academy Nominee and Over 250 Appearances
Born in 1944 in New York, Kirkland has been active since the 1960s, appearing in over 250 works. She gained fame by playing the title role in the 1987 comedy-drama 'Anna', earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and winning a Golden Globe Award. She was also a member of Andy Warhol's 'The Factory' and appeared in films such as 'The Sting', 'JFK', and 'Bruce Almighty'.
In addition to her acting career, a documentary titled 'Sallywood', which covers her multifaceted life as a painter, poet, and acting coach, will be released on November 9 on Amazon Prime, highlighting her legacy after over 60 years in Hollywood.
