Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett and over 30 top Hollywood stars will visit the Vatican this weekend at the invitation of Pope Leo XIV, Reuters reported on the 10th (local time).

This event is part of a jubilee program organized by the Vatican's Cultural Education Department, which takes place every 25 years.

The Vatican explained, "The Pope expressed his desire to engage in profound dialogue with the global film industry and explore the potential for artistic creativity to contribute to the Church's mission and the enhancement of human values."

Along with the actors, prominent filmmakers such as African American director Spike Lee, director George Miller of the 〈Mad Max〉 series, and director Gus Van Sant of 〈Good Will Hunting〉 are also expected to attend the event.

Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope in Catholic history, had a separate meeting with Hollywood veteran actor Robert De Niro, who visited the Vatican on the 7th.

While it is unusual for the Pope to officially invite numerous entertainment figures to an event, it is not without precedent. In June 2024, former Pope Francis invited comedians from 15 countries around the world, including Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon, to highlight 'The Power of Humor'.

Meanwhile, before inviting Hollywood stars, Pope Leo XIV revealed his four favorite films, which include 〈It's a Wonderful Life〉, 〈The Sound of Music〉, 〈Ordinary People〉, and 〈Life is Beautiful〉.
