Comedian Lee Kyung-sil's launched egg business has been embroiled in controversy over egg number and pricing method. In particular, there has been fierce criticism among netizens for pricing the product with egg number '4', which indicates a lower welfare standard, at a premium level.
On the 16th, broadcaster Jo Hye-ryeon promoted Lee Kyung-sil's recently introduced egg product 'Morning Egg Set (tentative name)' on her SNS, emphasizing its unique packaging with comments like "The packaging is different" and "The harmony of yellow and white." The product features a design that mixes white and brown eggs.
Egg Number 4 at Price of Number 1? Discrepancy in Egg Number Pointed Out
However, as the product details became known through online communities, criticism from netizens began to pour in. The biggest controversy is that despite the egg's number being 4, the price is set at a level comparable to number 1 (free-range) eggs.

Egg number indicates the rearing environment of laying hens, with lower numbers indicating higher welfare standards for the chickens.
1: Free-range (chickens can roam freely outside the barn)
2: Barn with free-range (chickens can roam freely inside the barn)
3: Improved cage
4: Conventional cage (the most common intensive farming method)
Generally, eggs with number 1 are classified as premium organic products and are priced the highest. In contrast, number 4 eggs are produced using the most common farming method.
Netizens pointed out the unfairness, saying, "Transforming egg number 4 into premium packaging and charging the price of number 1 is deceptive to consumers", "Isn't it just the price for packaging and fame?", and "Marketing has overshadowed the essential value of the product."
