Disney and Pixar’s flagship animated feature 〈Toy Story 5〉 is sparking a worldwide box-office craze after delivering an overwhelming score during its first weekend in North America.

According to Box Office Mojo, 〈Toy Story 5〉 earned $160 million (about 244.92 billion won) during its first weekend in North America, topping the box office. It marks the best opening record among 2026 releases and the highest-ever performance in the 〈Toy Story〉 franchise. The film also earned an A grade, the highest tier, on CinemaScore, reflecting real audience feedback and validating its quality.

Worldwide cumulative ticket sales also surpassed $312 million (about 477.64 billion won). The figure nearly chases the record set by 〈Inside Out 2〉 ($384 million), which is the No. 1 global opening for any Disney and Pixar animated film of all time.

The momentum in South Korea’s theaters remains just as fierce. Since 〈Toy Story 5〉 opened in the country on June 17, it has held the No. 1 spot in the overall box office for six straight days. With total admissions nearing 1 million, the film is on the verge of crossing that threshold. In an era flooded with digital devices, it has been winning praise across generations for its take on the value of analog toys, and its message about wonder and growth.

This installment is co-directed by Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris. It follows an adventure in which longtime toys—including Jessie, Woody, and Buzz—team up again as the arrival of a new friend for the owner, a smart tablet called “Lillypad,” puts them at risk of being sidelined. The voice cast includes Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie, and Greta Lee as Lillypad, who delivered standout performances.

〈Toy Story 5〉, which charts new survival stories for toys in a digital age, is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
