The play 〈Turing Machine〉 that brings the life of British genius mathematician Alan Turing to the stage is returning.
The play 〈Turing Machine〉 will be reprised at the Sejong Center S Theater in January 2026. During its domestic premiere in 2023, 〈Turing Machine〉 received enthusiastic praise from audiences and critics for its intellectual and dense performances, delicately portraying the complex life of the lonely human Turing, who was a genius, a homosexual, and had to live as a stutterer, leaving a deep impression. In particular, the four-sided stage configuration maximized the interaction between the audience and the actors, conveying Turing's loneliness and inner self more intimately.
In this 〈Turing Machine〉, Lee Seung-joo, who led the premiere, will again take the stage as the genius mathematician Alan Turing, with Lee Sang-yoon and Lee Dong-hwi joining the cast. Meanwhile, for the roles surrounding Turing's robbery case, Lee Hwi-jong, Choi Jung-woo, and Moon Yu-gang have been cast as Michael Ross, Hugh Alexander, and Arnold Murray, respectively.
〈Turing Machine〉 is a play written by Benoît Solès, who is active as a writer and actor, and has received recognition for both its artistic quality and merit by winning four major categories at the prestigious Molière Awards in the French theater scene, including Best Author, Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Play.
Alan Turing is regarded as a hidden hero who decrypted Germany's secret code Enigma during World War II, saving about 14 million lives and shortening the war. He is known as a pioneer of modern computer science and the first to propose the concept of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the inventor of the 'Turing Test', an experiment to determine whether a machine possesses artificial intelligence.
The play 〈Turing Machine〉 will meet the audience from January 8 to March 1, 2026, at the Sejong Center S Theater.
